Our 5th Grade Core curriculum includes a science/worldview course on astronomy, earth science and physics, an exciting history course on Africa, a reading course containing 75 essential Bible stories, and four read-aloud books including biographies on Robert Moffat, Mary Slessor, numerous worldwide missionaries, and Patricia St. John’s modern classic Star of Light.

Nowadays it’s fashionable to introduce “great books” to our children in their Christian paideia or educational training. We, however, recommend the best Book—the Bible. If our children want to learn to read and think, the first and core content of their study must be the Bible. These are God’s stories, and our children should know all the stories of Scripture by the time they are reading on a fifth grade level. Avoiding the piecemeal approach to Bible stories, the authors of this course instead present the whole story, the unity of Scripture, the true message intended by God.
Taking Africa for Jesus
Embark on an epic journey through the history of Africa with this exciting history course! Beginning in the Old Testament period, students will survey the history of ancient Egypt. Following the ascension of the Lord Jesus, the reader will trace the spreading reign of Jesus as the church spreads throughout Africa. Century after century, God has been at work in Africa. This book contains some of the most thrilling stories about the advance of the Gospel in what many have called the “dark continent.” Now, because of Jesus Christ, the Light of the world, a once dark continent is walking more and more in the light of Christ.
God Made the World
For 5th-7th grade level students, Generations here introduces a biblical worldview into basic astronomy, chemistry, and physics in the most winsome way possible. Every page of this elementary science book is meant to excite the student to wonder and praise. The wonder of God and the Word of God is expressed on every page. Above all, we pray the student will come to know God, as they come to understand a little bit more of this vast and wonderful creation around us. The basics of true science, and good science always begins with humility and the fear of God.
Star of Light, Adventures of Missionary Heroism, Mary Slessor, and Robert Moffat
For our 5th grade package, we’ve included four great books to be read aloud as a family. These stories of bravery and humility will encourage and inspire you and your children in the faith. Titles include: Patricia St. John’s classic Star of Light, a collection of missionary stories in Adventures of Missionary Heroism, and two children’s biographies on Mary Slessor and Robert Moffat.
